ABC’s Alaska Daily: Premiere Date, Cast & More Updates

Don’t we all love a good story with a strong female lead on a redemption journey? We see it in a lot of drama series but it never gets old.

ABC’s newest upcoming drama, Alaska Daily, is another that we can look forward to soon!

The pilot order for Alaska Daily (formerly known as simply Alaska) came back in September 2021 and in May 2022, was picked up to series by the network for their fall premiere schedule, alongside police procedural The Rookie: Feds and comedy series Not Dead Yet.

This announcement came right before several other series renewals, making it a very busy time for ABC!

With that, let’s take a look at everything you need to know about ABC’s upcoming drama series, Alaska Daily!

Who’s in charge?

Alaska Daily comes from the mind of director and screenwriter Tom McCarthy, who is no stranger to working on projects within the journalism industry – not only was he an actor on The Wire, but he was also director and writer of the Academy Award-winning film Spotlight, which bagged the Oscar for Best Picture!

McCarty executive produces Alaska Daily alongside Melissa Wells, Bert Salke, Anchorage Daily News’ Kyle Hopkins and Ryan Binkley, and Hilary Swank (who also stars).

Soon after the series pickup, writer and executive producer Peter Elkoff joined the team as executive producer and showrunner, departing amicably from his previous project, Fox’s The Resident.

The studio producing Alaska Daily is 20th Television as part of Disney Television Studios.

What’s Alaska Daily about?

According to the official ABC logline on their website, Eileen Fitzgerald is described as a “fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist”.

However, something happens at her current high-profile job in New York and she is left disgraced by those around her in the industry, prompting her to leave her life behind and start anew in Anchorage, Alaska.

There, she joins a daily metro newspaper in an attempt to rebuild her personal and professional life.

Eileen sets about investigating a cold case surrounding indigenous women who had gone missing, which leads her down a dangerous path into the city’s criminal underbelly where many would prefer that the secrets remain a secret.

Who will we see?

Hilary Swank headlines the cast in the lead role of Eileen Fitzgerald, making her return to TV (after news of a surprise appearance in the new Cobra Kai season is still up in the air).

Joining her in the cast are Jeff Perry as Stanley Cornik, the head of the metro newspaper and Eileen’s new boss, and Grace Dove as Rosalind “Roz” Friendly, Eileen’s partner who investigates the cold case with her.

Also starring in the series are Matt Malloy as Bob Young, Meredith Holzman as Claire Muncy, Pablo Castelblanco as Gabriel Tovar, Ami Park as Yuna Park, and lastly, Craig Frank as Austin Teague.

Details on the other characters have yet to be revealed, but we’re certainly looking forward to learning more about how they play into Eileen’s new life in Achorage.

Keep an eye out for the premiere of Alaska Daily on October 6, 2022!
