Fans of the sci-fi drama and thriller genres will get a kick out of one of ABC’s newest shows this year: Emergence. They just premiered the first official trailer to the show midway through May and the buzz has already picked up around the riveting mystery that was so well set up in the trailer!
Who’s in Charge?
Written and executive produced by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, and directed by Paul McGuigan, the series’ trailer and first episodes promise lots of mystery and intrigue for its awaiting audience.
Here’s an interesting tidbit surrounding Emergence: it was originally produced for NBC, not ABC. However, NBC execs decided not to order it to series and that’s when ABC swooped in for the rescue. According to Deadline, the ABC executive team loved the pilot so much that they decided to pick it up instead.
The pilot episode
The trailer kicks off with a city-wide blackout apparently caused by a strange plane crash on the beach. As the police chief investigates, she discovers a young girl at the crash site. A child who wasn’t even on the plane to begin with! From there, the story fleshes out the relationship between the child and the police chief, who takes on a more protective role for the child. And therefore she inexplicably finds herself in the middle of an even bigger investigation on who this child is, where she’s from, and why she’s so important.
Who’s playing who?
Allison Tolman switches genre from a few episodes on Brooklyn Nine-Nine to the main character in this new thriller. She plays Jo, the police chief who discovers the child at the crash site. The child in question, named Piper, is played by the beautiful Alexa Swinton. Though still very young, Alexa Swinton already has a slew of TV shows and short films under her belt. Her innocent yet mysterious features lend perfectly to the role she’ll be playing in Emergence, too!
While it’s not clear how big of a role the other characters in the trailer will play, we see Allison Tolman exit her home with two other characters in tow: Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Warcraft) as Ed, and Ashley Aufderheide (Infinitely Polar Bear) as Abby.
Zabryna Guevara plays Abby, the doctor who initially checks on Piper at the hospital. And we see another familiar face in the trailer with Donald Faison (Scrubs, Remember the Titans, Clueless). He plays Alex, who we’re assuming plays a friend of the police chief.
When to catch it?
Fans of sci-fi thrillers similar to NBC’s Manifest and even Netflix’s Stranger Things are sure to fall in love with Emergence as well. It’s promising to be an enthralling mystery that’ll leave all its viewers on the edge of their seats with every episode.
There’s no confirmation yet as to how many episodes the season will consist of, nor is there a confirmed release date, since only details of the first episode have been released. However, as per The TV Addict, Emergence is set for release in the fall and will air on Tuesday nights at 10/9 central on ABC.Last updated
