ABC is no stranger to family-based comedies. With hit shows like Modern Family and Black-ish already airing on the network. But this year another sitcom is joining ABC’s already great comedy lineup – The Kids Are Alright. Want to know more about this family-centric period comedy? Then keep on reading!

Who’s in charge?

This ABC single-camera comedy comes from Tim Doyle, who wrote the show. And is executive producing and narrating it as well. Also, executive producing the sitcom is Randall Einhorn. With Einhorn directing the pilot episode as well. And on the production side of things, ABC Studios is the studio helming this project.

What’s this show about?

Based on the show’s creator Tim Doyle’s childhood, The Kids Are Alright depicts the life of an Irish-Catholic family of ten during the 1970s. The 70s was one of the most unstable times in American history. Add that to rising eight boys in a three-bedroom house in Los Angeles suburbs. And you have yourself two overworked parents, eight unsupervised brothers and one boisterous household.

Who’s playing who?

The on-screen team for The Kids Are Alright consist of such actors as Mary McCormack, Michael Cudlitz, Sam Straley, Caleb Foote, Jack Gore, Sawyer Barth, Andy Walken, Santino Barnard and Christopher Paul Richards. McCormack and Cudlitz will play the heads of the household – Peggy and Mike Cleary. She’s a traditional housewife adept at stretching the family’s already tight budget to its limits. And, inspired by the events that are happening around her, yarns to find her independence. While he’s working all day long to be able to provide for his family.

While the rest of the rest of the actors mentioned above will portray the pair’s eight sons. Straley will star as the couple’s eldest son Lawrence, who suddenly quits the seminary and moves back home to go save the world. Whatever that means. With Foote playing Eddie, Gore starring as Timmy, Barth portraying Frank, Walken playing William, Barnard taking on the role of Pat and Richards playing Joey.

The latest on The Kids Are Alright

If this 70s-set comedy about a crazy ten person family sounds interesting to you, then I have good news for you. Because this May ABC picked up the show to series. The Kids Are Alright will air on Tuesday evenings at 8:30/7:30 central on ABC. With the premiere set for Tuesday, October 16. And here is the first trailer for the series for you to check out!
