CBS’ B Positive: Premiere Date, Cast, Trailer & More

What’s the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear the title of CBS’ new sitcom, B Positive?

Probably blood type, right? Or maybe it’s a common self-help mantra to remind yourself to always look on the bright side of life.

Either way, if that’s the case, you’re pretty much on point on what the show’s premise is! A clever play on words, B Positive is a feel-good sitcom about seeing the silver lining in any situation and finding your perfect match – both in blood type and in life!

Who’s Behind the Show?

B Positive was created by Marco Pennette (Inconceivable, Ugly Betty), while co-executive produced and co-written by the award-winning Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, The Kominsky Method) for Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television. James Burrows (2 Broke Girls, Cheers) also served as a co-producer and director, though just for the pilot episode.

One of the 14 pilot shows ordered by CBS for the upcoming TV season, B Positive is slated to be the only comedy series in their Fall 2020 lineup. According to Deadline, it was the only series in the lineup that was able to finish production on its pilot episode before everything was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May, CBS officially picked it up to series.

What’s B Positive About?

The official synopsis from CBS tells us:

“Faced with finding a kidney donor, newly divorced dad Drew is at the end of his rope when he runs into Gina, a rough-around-the-edges woman from his past who volunteers her own. Together they form an unlikely bond and begin a journey that will change both of their lives.”

As a therapist, Drew’s job is to help his patients through their personal problems and try, as much as they can, to maintain a positive outlook. It’s a little harder than usual though, considering Drew suddenly finds himself in a less-than-positive situation. Things might start looking up for him when a former high school acquaintance pops back into his life – especially when she ends up being the perfect B-positive donor match!

Who Are We Going to See?

When CBS ordered the B Positive pilot in February 2020, the first casting announcement came soon after with Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex) cast as Gina, Drew’s volunteer kidney donor.

A few weeks later, Kether Donohue (You, LA to Vegas) and Sara Rue (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Impastor) joined the cast as Leanne and Julia, respectively. There’s not a lot of details known yet about these characters. Except that Leanne is a party girl. And Julia is Drew’s realtor ex-wife who had an affair – exactly the reason why she’s now the ex-wife.

The lead role of Drew was given to Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley). And after two recastings, actress Izzy G (AJ and the Queen) is set to play Maddie, Dew’s daughter who’s described as wise beyond her years and often acts as a parent to her mom and dad.

And lastly, in September Terrance Terrel joined the cast as Eli, a professional football player and a fellow kidney donor-recipient who meets Eli in dialysis.

B Positive will premiere on Thursday, November 5th, and will occupy the popular Thursdays at 8:30/7:30 central timeslot.
