CBS’ Bob Hearts Abishola: Release Date, Synopsis, Trailer & More

We’ve got yet another reason to look forward to the fall TV season! Early in May, CBS made its comedy picks for the season and we can’t wait to put Bob Hearts Abishola on our watch list.

This new series was one of four comedies ordered to series in May after its initial early pilot order back in October 2018. CBS released the first trailer not long after the announcement and oh, it truly does warm the heart.

Bob Hearts Abishola puts a comedic yet uplifting spin on the life of an immigrant who’s just trying to achieve the American dream – all while navigating her way through the romantic gestures of an unexpected suitor.

As we mentioned, Bob Hearts Abishola is set to premiere on CBS this fall, on September 23 to be exact. And will air every Monday at 8:30/ 7:30 central.

Who’s behind the show?

You know it’ll be a great comedy when you have someone like Chuck Lorre at the helm. He already has three amazing ongoing comedies for CBS: The Big Bang Theory, Mom, and Young Sheldon. With the end of The Big Bang Theory, Lorre keeps his CBS show tally at three with the fall premiere of Bob Hearts Abishola.

Chuck Lorre wrote the pilot episode and will serve as the executive producer alongside Eddie Gorodetsky, Al Higgins, and Gina Yashere. While the first episode was directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller. The production companies involved are Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television.

What’s the storyline?

Bob Hearts Abishola, at its core, is an endearing love story that has its roots in a hospital room.

After middle-aged compression socks salesman Bob suffers a heart attack, he opens his eyes to see Abishola, a Nigerian immigrant and the cardiac nurse assigned to look over him as he recovers. He unexpectedly falls head over heels in love with her. And despite her initial lack of interest and the vast differences in their backgrounds, he just keeps trying everything to win her over. Including an unlimited supply of the “best socks in the world”.

Who’s been cast?

Chuck Lorre seems to enjoy working with Billy Gardell, as he’s been cast in the lead role of Bob. Gardell also starred in CBS’ Mike & Molly which was also executive produced by Lorre, and he also has a recurring role on Young Sheldon. Starring opposite him is Folake Olowofoyeku in her first lead role as Abishola.

In December 2018, seven co-leads were announced to play opposite Gardell and Olowofoyeku. Playing members of Bob’s family are Christine Ebersole as Dottie, Bob’s mother. As well as Maribeth Monrone as Christina, Bob’s sister, and Matt Jones as Douglas, his brother.

Vernee Watson will play Gloria, the receptionist at the hospital where Abishola works. Shola Adewusi will play Olu, Abishola’s aunt. While Barry Shabaka Henley will play Tunde, her uncle. Lastly, Travis Wolfe Jr. has been cast as Dele, Abishola’s son.

Why should you watch Bob Hearts Abishola?

Bob Hearts Abishola is hilarious, endearing, and bound to be a fan favorite! So, keep your eyes peeled for CBS’ newest comedy, coming to your screens every Monday this fall.
