CBS’ NCIS: Hawai’i: Premiere Date, Cast & More Updates

Without a doubt, NCIS is one of primetime TV’s most successful shows to date.

But, in case you’re still unfamiliar with the NCIS and what they do, they are the leading law enforcement agency that investigates crimes involving the US Navy and Marine Corps. That’s a blanket explanation, as their functions are a lot more comprehensive than just that, but you get the idea.

With 18 seasons under its belt and a 19th set to premiere in September this year, NCIS is the 7th longest-running scripted primetime TV show in history! It is also the parent series that set off the entire franchise, including NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.

Now, CBS is adding a fourth series to the franchise with NCIS: Hawai’i!

Earlier this year, it was reported that CBS was in the process of finalizing a fourth installment in the franchise. Unlike most other spinoffs, it wouldn’t be teased with a backdoor pilot in the preceding series’ but would start completely on its own.

In April 2021, NCIS: Hawai’i was officially ordered to series, along with a name change to incorporate the official spelling using the Hawaiian language.

Here’s everything we know so far about the newest spinoff, NCIS: Hawai’i!

Who’s in charge of the show?

Christopher Silber, who was previously a showrunner on NCIS: New Orleans, takes the lead as the creator for the upcoming spinoff.

Joining him at the helm are Jan Nash and Matt Bosack, also writers and executive producers with Silber.

Larry Teng will be co-executive producing and also directed the pilot episode.

What’s NCIS: Hawai’i about?

A brand new team of investigators are heading to the Aloha State where although kindness and hospitality reign supreme with its residents, its military and national security still has its fair share of brushes with crime.

The team will be working out of the Pearl Harbor Field Office under the watchful supervision of Special Agent Jane Tennant.

Here is NCIS: Hawai’i’s official logline from CBS:

“The world’s most successful television series continues on the seductive shores of Hawai’i as the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor takes command. She and her team balance duty to family and country, investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security, and the mysteries of the island itself. This NCIS: Hawai’i team is a skilled mix of mainland transplants who’ve re-located to the tranquility of the Pacific and wizened locals who know their mahalo from kapu.”

Who are we going to see?

TV host and actress Vanessa Lachey is set to play Tennant, a single mother and diligent investigator who is more than capable of dealing with the agency’s politics and the hardships that come with leading the team.

Tennant’s second-in-command and a former homicide detective Jesse Boon will be played by Noah Mills.

Their team is composed of junior field agent Lucy, played by Yasmine Al-Bustami; Kai, a new agent who’s also a Hawai’i local played by Alex Tarrant; cyber intelligence specialist Ernie Malik, played by Jason Antoon; and Kate Whistler, played by Tori Anderson, who is a Special Agent from the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Kian Talan will be playing Alex, Tennant’s 16-year-old son.

And Enver Gjokaj has been cast in a recurring role as navy captain Joe Milius.

NCIS: Hawai’i is set to premiere on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 10 pm ET, right after the airing of its parent series NCIS.
