When it comes to new TV shows medical dramas is a genre that is always present because every year there is at least one new medical drama series. And this year that’s NBC’s New Amsterdam. Who’s in charge?
New Amsterdam hails from David Schulner, who also serves as executive producer on this new series along with Peter Horton. Universal Television along with Mount Moriah and Pico Creek Productions are also part of the team that is bringing this show to life. Dr. Eric Manheimer is on board as producer. And the pilot episode was directed by Kate Dennis.
What’s this show about?
Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s (New York’s Bellevue Hospital’s former medical director) memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital“, New Amsterdam follows Dr. Max Goodwin, the newly appointed Bellevue Hospital’s medical director. Bellevue is the oldest public hospital in America, capable of treating everything from the President of the United States to Ebola patients in one building. Yet recently the famous hospital has fallen from grace due to not enough staff or funding. So Goodwin intends to restore Bellevue to its former glory by any means necessary.
Who’s playing who?
When it comes to the cast of New Amsterdam, Ryan Eggold is front and center playing the lead of the show Dr. Goodwin. And alongside him star actors like Freema Agyeman, Anupam Kher, Tyler Labine, Jocko Sims and Janet Montgomery.
Agyeman will portray Dr. Hana Sharpe, Bellevue Hospital’s lead doctor who is trying to raise the hospital’s prestige via talk show appearances. Kher will star as one of the hospital’s oldest and most experienced doctors Dr. Anil Kapoor. Labine will play Dr. Iggy Frome, Bellevue’s attending child psychiatrist. With Sims taking up the role of attending cardiac surgeon Dr. Floyd Pearson. And Montgomery playing attending ER doctor Dr. Laura Bloom.

If the premises of this new series sounds exciting to you then you’re in luck. Because right before their upfronts in May NBC gave New Amsterdam a series order. The show will air on Tuesdays at 10/9 central, with the premiere date set for Tuesday, September 25.
