Ensemble dramas aren’t anything new when it comes to network television. But lately, this genre is one that has gained a lot of traction among its viewers. So this year NBC is debuting another new drama featuring a bigger group cast. Want to know more about NBC’s The Village? Then keep on reading!
Who’s in charge?
The Village comes from writer Mike Daniels. Who also executive produced the project alongside Jessica Rhoades and Minkie Spiro. Spiro directed the pilot episode of this upcoming series. And 6107 Productions and Universal Television are the two studios behind producing the show.
What’s this show about?
This new drama series focuses on the residents of a Brooklyn apartment building nicknamed The Village. From the outside, it is an apartment complex like any other. But when you get to know the people living inside the units of the building, you quickly realize that they are way more than just neighbors co-existing in one space. Within the walls of The Village, they have built their own diverse and multicultural family. In their midsts, there are Patricia and Ron, a married couple with an interesting past. Nick, a soldier who has just returned from the war. Gabe, a law student who’s living with and taking care of his grandfather Enzo. Ava, an immigrant trying to make sure that her America-born son is taken care of when she gets deported. Ben, a New York police officer. And Sarah, a nurse and single mom to her teenage daughter Katie.
Who’s playing who?
Since the show isn’t about a single individual but a whole group of people, it also calls for an ensemble cast. Which is made up of actors like Dominic Chianese, Warren Christie, Lorraine Toussaint, Frankie Faison, Daren Kagasoff, Jerod Haynes, Michaela McManus, Moran Atias and Grace Van Dien.
Toussaint and Faison will play Patricia and Ron respectively. Patricia is a social worker who has taken on the role of the apartment building’s caretaker since she can’t have children on her own. And with Ron by her side, who also is very caring by nature, they are The Village’s resident grandmother and grandfather. Christie will portray special forces operative Nick, who was forced to retire after he lost his leg on tour and now is trying to readjust to civilian life. Law student Gabe will be played by Kagasoff. With Chianese playing Gabe’s grandfather and roommate Enzo. Whose goal in life is to enjoy every second that he has left on this Earth.
Atias will take on the role of Ava. She’s an Iranian immigrant with fake papers, who’s doing everything she can to set up her young son for a good life before ICE deports her. Haynes will play NYPD cop Ben. With McManus and Van Dien portraying the mother-daughter duo Sarah and Katie. Sarah’s a hard-working nurse who became a mother at a young age and has been raising Katie by herself from the very beginning. While Katie is a smart yet rebellious activist who’s on a journey to find exactly who she is.
