In The Dark

This year The CW is bringing us many new and exciting TV shows. And one of them is In The Dark, a murder mystery that centers on a hard-living woman who just so happens to be blind. Want to know more about this upcoming series? Then keep on reading!

Who’s in charge?

In The Dark is written by Corinne Kingsbury. Who also serves as executive producer on the project alongside Ben Stiller, Emily Fox, Jackie Cohn, Nicky Weinstock, Michael Showalter, and Jon Collier. Showalter is the director of the show’s pilot episode. While Collier has been taped as series showrunner. And CBS Television Studios, Warner Bros. Television as well as Stiller’s Red Hour Films are the production studios behind this upcoming drama.

What’s this show about?

This new series zeroes in on a twentysomething woman named Murphy. Although she’s blind, that doesn’t stop Murphy from having a colorful dating life, a job that she hates and quite a few bad habits. Smoking being the least of them. But when she finds her friend Tyson’s lifeless body in an alleyway near her apartment, yet, once the police arrive, it has mysteriously vanished, making the detectives on the case doubt Murphy’s witness account, she decides to find out who murdered her friend herself. With a little help from her guide dog Pretzel and roommate Jess.

Who’s playing who?

The cast for this upcoming series is as interesting as its premise. Because it includes actors like Perry Mattfeld, Kathleen York, Brooke Markham, Derek Webster, Morgan Krantz, Keston John, Rich Sommer, and Levi.

Mattfeld will be leading the charge as Murphy. She loves to party, smoke cigarettes and casual sex and doesn’t let the fact that she’s blind stop her. Murphy work’s at Breaking Blind, her parent’s unprofitable guide-dog school, even though most days it’s just the place where she sleeps off her hangovers. And lives with her best friend Jess, played by Markham. Jess is a veterinarian and at times can be overly protective of her roommate.

York and Webster will be taking on the roles of Murphy’s parent’s Joy and Hank. Despite her name, Joy is cynical and has long given up hope that Murphy will change. But when Murphy starts showing signs of turning her life around, Joy can’t help but feel optimistic. Even if cautiously so. Hank, on the other hand, is a man with infinite patience for his daughter’s less than responsible behavior. As well as for their business venture, the guide dog school Murphy works at but that shows no signs of being profitable. With Krantz playing Felix, the school’s administrator and Joy’s right-hand man.

Finally, John will play Darnell, Tyson’s cousin who roped Tyson into dealing drugs for him. At first, he doesn’t believe that his cousin is dead. But when Tyson’s absence became obvious, Darnell joins Murphy on the quest of finding who murdered Tyson. Sommer will co-star as Dean, the cop who responds to Murphy’s initial call about finding Tyson’s body. Dean has a blind daughter, so he’s put on the case and eventually starts believing Murphy’s claims. The role was played by Austin Nichols in the pilot but was later re-cast. And last but not least, Levi will play Murphy’s Golden Retriever guide dog Pretzel.
