Calling all 90s kids! The Archieverse is getting another live-action series borrowing characters from our favorite Archie comics! Yes, The CW officially picked Katy Keene up for series in May 2019.

The show will premiere on Thursday, February 6th at 8 pm on The CW. But while we wait for it to arrive you can check out the Sex and the City-esque trailer below and continue reading the article for all that there is to know about this new drama series!

Katy Keene is set in New York City. And, being that it is a Riverdale spinoff, it takes place five years after the events in the parent series.

Categorized as a musical dramedy, Katy Keene is a pretty far cry from the dark, mysterious tones of Riverdale. Which could not only be an interesting change. But also hopefully means that we will be able to see the cast of this new series showing off their singing chops during the episodes of the show’s first season.

But does the difference in tones means that a Katy Keene and Riverdale crossover is completely out of the question? Thankfully no! Both The CW President Mark Pedowitz and the show’s creator Michael Grassi have mentioned a potential crossover. Which sounds promising. However, should it happen, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead would have to appear on the spin-off as their older selves.

Who’s behind the show?

Grassi developed the show alongside Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, both of whom are also the show’s writers.

The series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Archie Comics, Warner Bros. Television, and CBS Television Studios. While the pilot episode was directed by Maggie Kelly.

What’s it about?

It’s already being compared to Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. What with the glitz, glamour, fashion, drama, and general fast-paced life in New York City: the place where dreams are supposed to come true.

And that’s what Katy Keene is about. It follows the life and struggles of four aspiring artists from various fields as they do whatever it takes to grab the spotlight in the Big Apple.

Katy is an aspiring fashion designer working at Lacy’s, a luxury department store. Jorge (aka Ginger) is a Broadway hopeful trying to boost his drag career. Pepper is a mysterious It-girl aspiring to own the next fashion empire. And we all know Josie, a singer-songwriter chasing her musical dreams after (spoiler alert!) she leaves Riverdale to join her dad on tour.

Who will we see on Katy Keene?

Ashleigh Murray will reprise the role of Josie, only five years older than she was when she decided to leave Riverdale. Jorge aka Ginger Lopez will be played by Jonny Beauchamp (Penny Dreadful). And Pepper Smith will be played by Julia Chan (Saving Hope).

While the show’s titular character will be played by Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars). And there couldn’t be anyone else more perfect for the role! Hale has the big, doe eyes and striking brunette locks that are iconic to the Katy Keene character in the comics. Not to mention her natural sense of style that’s perfect for someone playing a fashion legend-to-be!

Other roles in the show include Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount as Alexandra and Alexander Cabot, siblings running their father’s company. Zane Holtz as K.O. Kelly, Katy’s longtime boyfriend, and aspiring professional boxer. As well as Katherine LaNasa as Gloria Grandbilt, one of Katy’s professional rivals.

If you’ve always been fascinated by success stories and life in New York City. Or just love the vibe of shows like Gossip Girl and Sex and the City then Katy Keene is definitely one you should keep an eye out for come February 6th!
