Who hasn’t heard of Roswell, The CW’s (then The WB’s and UPN’s) one of the most recognizable TV series? It truly is a legend of a show with 3 seasons and 61 episodes under its belt. However, since we are in the age of TV reboots. And more than a decade has passed since the last episode of Roswell aired in 2002, the CW has decided to reboot the sci-fi series. And we can expect the show to air as early as next spring. So if you want to find out more about this Roswell reboot then keep on reading!
Who’s in charge?
When it comes to the people who will be bringing us the new take on this The CW classic, the Roswell reboot is written and executive produced by Carina Adly MacKenzie. Who you might know from her work on The Originals. Along with MacKenzie, Lawrence Bender, Chris Hollier, Kevin Kelly Brown, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey and Julie Plec also serve as executive producers on this new series. While on the network and production company side of things this project is backed by Amblin Television, Bender Brown Productions as well as Warner Bros. TV.
What’s this show about?
While the original Roswell detailed the lives of human and alien teenagers living in the small town of Roswell, New Mexico. To modernize the Reboot, Mackenzie is adding an immigrant twist to it. Because the Roswell reboot will follow Liz Ortecho, a biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants, who comes back to her hometown, only to find out that the boy she liked in high school Max is actually an alien. But just as Liz and Max are reconnecting and trying to get to the bottom of Max’s ancestry, a terrible attack is launched. And it not only puts a strain on the quickly developing romantic relationship between Liz and Max. But also uncovers a government conspiracy spanning decades.
Who’s playing who?
Since the CW has officially put in a series order for Roswell. And since we know that Julie Plec (one of the creators of The Vampire Diaries) directed the pilot episode of this reboot, the casting for this project is near complete. So we already know most of the actors who will be playing key roles on this Roswell reboot.
First and foremost Jeanine Mason has been cast as the show’s lead. She will be putting her spin on Liz Ortecho, a wearied researcher returning to her hometown after a tragic incident. Opposite her will star Nathan Parsons, playing Max, Liz’s love interest, Roswell’s police officer and one of the town’s resident alien. He is characterized as a dedicated cop with natural leadership skills. While the cast is rounded out by Tyler Blackburn, Michael Trevino, Heather Hemmens, Michael Vlamis, Lily Cowles, Trevor St. John and Karan Oberoi.
Blackburn will be playing Sergeant Alex Manes, a soldier returning from a tour overseas, who tries to please his father any way he can. Even if it means he can’t be with the man he loves. Trevino will portray Kyle Valenti, Roswell’s sheriff’s son, who discovers some hard truths about his family’s past. Heather Hemmens will star as Liz’s former best friend Maria. While Vlamis will be playing Michael, a man with troubled past and desire to leave Earth in search of a better future. Cowles will star as Isobel. Women stuck in Roswell and trying to live as best as she can while trapped in the small tourist-loved town. St. John is set to play Master Sgt. Jesse Manes, who intends to wipe out the aliens residing in Roswell. And Oberoi will portray Isobel’s husband Noah Bracken.
