The CW’s The Winchesters: Premiere Date, Cast & More Updates

After 15 amazing seasons, the ever-popular fantasy horror series Supernatural came to an end in 2020.

Naturally, fans were sad at having such an iconic series wrap up, though at least it tied all loose ends (albeit in a bittersweet but beautiful way – no spoilers!).

Needless to say, we were hardly expecting (though always hopeful) to see either Dean or Sam again, or for there to be an expansion to the story of the Winchester brothers.

That’s why the news of the new spin-off, The Winchesters was so welcomed!

It comes from Dean Winchester himself – Jensen Ackles, and his wife Daneel who also had a recurring role in Supernatural.

In June 2021, the project had a script commitment already but it wasn’t until February 2022 that it received its pilot order.

This comes after two previous attempts at a spin-off: Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters, neither of which went forward.

Thankfully, The Winchesters was then picked up to series in May.

Now, here’s everything you need to know about The CW’s The Winchesters!

Who’s in charge?

Both Jensen and Daneel Ackles are executive producers under their Chaos Machine Productions banner as part of a deal they have with WBTV, while fellow Supernatural co-executive producer alum Robbie Thompson is also an executive producer and writer.

Rounding out the team of EPs is Glen Winter, who also directed the pilot.

The Ackles’ Chaos Machine Productions produces in association with CBS Studios and Warner Bros. TV.

What’s The Winchesters about?

While the parent series focused a majority of its plot line on the adventures of and relationship between the Winchester brothers, a significant part of it also extended to their family: that is, their parents John and Mary Winchester.

We would get tidbits of their story throughout, just enough to understand the undying love they had both for each other and for their sons.

Now, fans will get to understand their story just that much more.

As a prequel, The Winchesters will explore the epic love story between John and Mary, and “how they put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world.”

Looks like the instinct to save the world really runs in the Winchester blood.

There’s more: fans get a small dose of Dean Winchester throughout as well as Jensen Ackles reprises his role as the narrator!

The CW has also released the first trailer for the series, which you can watch below.

Who will we see?

Apart from Ackles returning to narrate as Dean, here are the confirmed castings!

Neida Khurshid will play Latika Desai, a hunter in training with research and problem-solving skills proven to be a true asset. Newcomer Jojo Fleites will play Carloz Cervantez, another naturally talented hunter for the team.

Demetria McKinney joined the cast as Ada Monroe, a bookstore owner with an interest in the occult. With Bianca Kajlich starring as John’s mom Millie.

Playing the lead roles of Mary Campbell (later Winchester) and John Winchester are Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger.

Mary wants to quit the hunting business but leads their new team after her father goes missing. While John, also on a quest to seek answers about his father’s past, crosses her path.

The Winchesters is set to premiere on The CW on Tuesday, October 11th!
