Today March is coming to a close and letting April bring longer days and warmer weather. However, before we embrace the new month, we should look back on the top TV show news stories that broke this month. Among them were quite a few renewed shows and a few canceled ones as well. We got The Originals season 5 trailer, Animal Kingdom season 3 trailer and The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 trailer. As well as a bit of news on The Crown and Game of Thrones. Here is TSP monthly for March.

Renewals & Cancelations

March has been kind to multiple shows when it comes to their renewals. But at the same time, this month has also brought a few TV show cancelations. Because without cancelations we wouldn’t have new shows to fall in love with. So let’s find out which shows got axed and which were lucky and got another season.

Let’s start with the bad news. Among the shows that didn’t get renewed is Freeform’s sci-fi drama Beyond. As well as the network’s sitcom Young & Hungry, which, however, is getting a two-hour movie before the show succumbs to its faith. Additionally, TNT decided not to give a fifth season to their show The Librarians. And Disney Chanel is also canceling Stuck In the Middle.

While on the list of shows that did get the green light to go on for at least another season is Cinemax’s Strike Back. Newbie dramas CBS’s S.W.A.T. and SEAL Team and ABC’s The Good Doctor also both got season 2 orders from their networks. ABC also is giving an eleventh season to their Roseanne revival. And Netflix has decided to give additional seasons to such shows as Black Mirror, Queer Eye, One Day at a Time, Travelers, The Toys That Made Us, Dope, Nailed It! and Drug Lords.

Additionally, NBC is giving a whopping 54th season to their daytime drama Days of Our Lives. And also an eleventh season to Will & Grace. SyFy picked up The Magicians for 13 more episodes. Starz is giving a sixth season to Power. The CW renewed Riverdale for a third season. And lastly, USA decided to give an 8-episode second run to The Sinner.

The Originals season 5 trailer and first look at Klaroline reunion

With less than a month to go until the April 18 premiere of The Originals season 5, this month we finally got a first look at the upcoming season.

Despite what the video says about the premiere date (it was announced yesterday that The Originals is bumping Life Sentence from their Wednesday slot and therefore premiering two days earlier) The Originals season 5 trailer gives us a glimpse at what we can expect to see during the final season of the show. As well as nicely sets a tone for the season which will no doubt dictate how this last season will go.

In addition to The Originals season 5 trailer, this month we also got a long-awaited first look at Klaus and Caroline’s reunion on The Originals.

This Klaroline reunion picture shows us Klaus and Caroline looking at each other with fondness in their eyes. And, since it has been teased that in the upcoming season Caroline will be almost like a mentor to Klaus when it comes to being a father to Hope, her role in The Originals season 5 could be bigger than a quick in and out gig.

The Crown finds their second Prince Philip

For a while now we have been wondering who will replace Matt Smith as a bit older version of Prince Philip in seasons 2 and 3 of The Crown. And for a while, there was even talk that it might turn out to be Vision himself Paul Bettany. Yet a scheduling conflict prevented that from panning out.

Luckily this month The Crown were able to secure themselves a new actor for the role of Prince Philip. And the consort to Olivia Colman’s older Queen Elizabeth II will be played by Tobias Menzie. Who you might know from such shows as Outlander and Game of Thrones. It looks like the two upcoming seasons of The Crown are shaping up to be quite interesting.

Season 3 trailer for Animal Kingdom

The Originals weren’t the only show to debut a new trailer for their upcoming season. Because at the end of March Animal Kingdom launched a brand new trailer for their third season as well.

And this Animal Kingdom season 3 trailer nicely sets up the new season. As well as shows us a few of the crazy things that are about to come our way during season 3. And I’m talking blood, crazy jobs, rivalry and new players. It’s about to get wild on Animal Kingdom season 3, guys!

Game of Thrones season 8 scoop

Although we have to wait until April 2019 to see the final six episodes of Game of Thrones. As that time looms closer, we are also getting more and more tidbits about the last season of Game of Thrones. And one of the things revealed to us this month was that the final season of the show is going to be even bloodier than usual.

Game of Thrones is known for its willingness to kill off bigger and smaller characters just to further the story. And it looks like Game of Thrones season 8 will do that left and right. Because HBO’s senior vice president Francesca Orsi mentioned in a conference that by the time the table read for the last six episodes of season 8 was done, only a few characters were left standing. So you might want to brace yourselves GoT fans because once the new season airs next year, blood will be shed.

New trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season 2

And lastly, this month there also was a new trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season 2.

In this explosive trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season 2, we see just where the second season will take us. Hints of what the main characters are up to in the upcoming season. And just how will June Osborne aka Offred’s faith will shake out. It looks dark and downright terrifying at times. So I can only imagine what the actual season will be like.
