Ever since the news broke of Lori Loughlin’s involved in the college admissions scandal and her firing from the show that followed, the future of When Calls the Heart has seemed uncertain. And despite the fact that the show’s executive producer Brian Bird ensured fans that When Calls the Heart isn’t canceled fans could not help but wonder what’s in store for the beloved series. Luckily, we finally have a few updates on what’s next for When Calls the Heart.
When Calls the Heart Renewed for Season 7
It turns out Mr. Bird was right When Calls the Heart isn’t canceled. Quite the opposite actually. Because it was recently announced that The Hallmark Channel has renewed the series for another season. That’s right, When Calls the Heart season 7 is happening and we couldn’t be happier about it!
The announcement came via the show’s lead actress Erin Krakow, who plays the recently widowed schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher. During which Krakow told the show’s fans that When Calls the Heart season 7 is coming sometime in 2020. Who’s excited to return to Hope Valley for yet another year?
When will new episodes of When Calls the Heart season 6 return?
If you listened to the When Calls the Heart season 7 announcement carefully then you probably also heard that new episodes of the show’s current sixth season will be back starting Sunday, May 5. And that we will also get a new episode of the series the following day, on Monday, May 6. Meaning that we will have a chance to see new episodes of When Calls the Heart on two consecutive days. Which in our eyes more than makes up for the brief hiatus that the show is currently on.
And then, after the two-night event that will kick of the rest of When Calls the Heart season 6, the show will be back to its regular Sundays at 8 p.m. timeslot. Where it will stay the rest of the season and air the remaining episodes of the series’ sixth season.
Loughlin-less season 6
Finally, how will When Calls the Heart handle Lori Loughlin and therefore Abigail Stanton’s departure?
Well, according to Entertainment Weekly Loughlin will be edited out from the rest of the When Calls the Heart season 6 episodes. That will result in the season having one fewer episode thanks to the extensive and highly creative editing and minor reshoots that currently are underway for the show’s sixth season.
As for how the show will deal with Abigail’s absence in the upcoming seventh season… That is not yet known. And it most likely will be dictated by how season 6 will play out. However, we believe that there will be some kind of resolution for the character either this season or the next. Because after all, Abigail is the mayor of Hope Valley and her not being there will be felt by both the show’s audience and the rest of the characters.
So, are you happy that there will be another season of When Calls the Heart and that the current one will be back on May 5th? And what about the way that the series is planning to handle Loughlin’s exit? Let us know in the comments below. And don’t forget to tune in to The Hallmark Channel on Sunday, May 5 at 8/7 central for a brand new episode of When Calls the Heart!
very excited that WCTH is not cancelled!!! and personally i feel everyone can make a mistake and still don’t understand why the fans (and other actors) of WCTH should suffer the loss of Lori Loughlin’s errors. why not stun the world, forgive and forget and bring Lori back in full!!???
send the question out to fans and see what the majority think, for that matter….
best regards and blessings
