Heartland Season 19 Episode 6 Recap

After weeks of tension, rumors, and quiet emotional storms, Heartland season 19 episode 6 galloped full-speed into the Hudson Rodeo – and the result was an episode packed with high-stakes moments, heartfelt decisions, and more than a few relationship shakeups.

From Amy trying to rebuild her reputation, to Katie facing a tough choice, to Dex taking a reckless risk, this episode was anything but filler.

And with Gracie’s schemes getting harder to ignore and Nathan caught in the middle, the ripple effects from this week’s events are sure to be felt for the rest of the season.

So saddle up – here’s everything that went down on Heartland season 19 episode 6.

Reputations, Rope Burns, and Redemption

After the last episode’s canceled clients and career-threatening rumors, in this one, Amy finally had a shot at reclaiming her name.

But nothing about this redemption arc came easy.

The opportunity came from a new client, Cheryl, who brought Amy a challenge in the form of a former star rope horse named Strider.

Once a top-tier competitor, Strider had lost his edge, and Cheryl wanted Amy to fix him in time to be showcased at the Hudson Rodeo… which was the very next day.

Not only that, she wanted Amy to ride Strider in the rodeo herself to help entice buyers, since Cheryl was hoping to sell Strider based on his last year’s success.

Amy was hesitant. With her reputation still shaky after the colic incident with Polaris, the stakes were high. But Cheryl made a compelling case – everyone loves a comeback story, and Amy needed one just as badly as Strider did. So Amy agreed.

Nathan stepped up as her heeler, and the two started practicing. But it was clear early on that Amy wasn’t in top form. Her confidence was shaken, and the pressure was on (not a good combination), so Cheryl was starting to doubt whether this plan was going to work.

Still, Amy pushed through. And pretty quickly she figured out what was going wrong: Strider was turning left the moment Amy caught the horns, leaving her no time to dally.

Once they identified the issue, Amy and Nathan spent the day practicing. But the pressure was starting to really get to Amy, especially after yet another client canceled on her. And it didn’t help that Caleb had arrived at the ranch while they were practicing, and Caleb and Nathan quickly started bickering – yet another thing Amy had to worry about (more on that in the next section).

So, with the growing urgency of having to do well at the rodeo to not only help Cheryl sell Strider but also to hopefully restore her reputation, Amy decided that they needed to practice roping a faster steer – “get dialled in at competition speed,” she said. And although Nathan was hesitant, Amy insisted that Strider was ready, and they went for it.

But Amy was the one who wasn’t ready. During their next run, Amy’s hand got caught in the rope, resulting in a nasty rope burn. So much so that Nathan rushed her to the ER.

Though it wasn’t serious enough to sideline Amy long-term, the injury meant she couldn’t compete the next night.

Even worse, seeing Nathan and Caleb bickering in the ER waiting room, Amy had had enough, and she admitted that the accident was fully her own fault. Her mind had been elsewhere, tangled in the ongoing tension between Nathan and Caleb, and that moment of distraction had cost her.

Amy: “Doctor says I can’t ride Strider tomorrow.”
Nathan: “He’s not ready anyway.”
Amy: “Yeah, he is. He did everything right. That wreck was not his fault. My head wasn’t in the game because I was thinking about you two bickering! I can’t even believe that you don’t want to get along. I was upset, OK? I am upset.”

That seemed to put things into perspective for Nathan, because the next day he came up with an idea: what if he and Caleb entered the rodeo as a team instead?

And he didn’t even have to convince Caleb much; he was all in and ready to win it.

On the day of the rodeo, when Cheryl found out that Nathan would be riding Strider instead of Amy, she was skeptical. But Amy was confident it would work out because she trusted Strider, but even more than that, she trusted Nathan and believed that Caleb and Nathan could pull this off.

At the rodeo, just before the event, Amy had a poignant conversation with Logan, who thanked her for helping him realize that his calling was helping horses. It was a subtle but meaningful reminder to Amy about why she does what she does.

And when it was time to perform, Nathan and Caleb delivered.

Their run wasn’t just solid – it was the best time of the night, winning the team roping event and proving Amy right.

Cheryl was overjoyed. She told Amy that she already had a serious offer on Strider and was even hoping for a bidding war. And more importantly, she told Amy that she will make it a point to tell everyone that it was Amy Fleming who got Strider back on track.

It wasn’t the victory Amy expected. But it might’ve been the one she needed.

Frenemies to Reluctant Allies

So let’s unpack the Nathan and Caleb of it all.

Tension between Nathan and Caleb had been simmering for a long while. But in this episode, even after the truce they seemed to come to at the end of their plane crash survival journey, it boiled over again – and just in time to force a long-overdue reckoning.

It all kicked off when Caleb showed up at Heartland just as Amy and Nathan were practicing their roping for the Hudson Rodeo.

He joked about déjà vu, watching Amy practice with Nathan again.

Lyndy rushed to greet Caleb, excited to show off the tricks she’d taught Molly. Nathan, to his credit, promised to bring the dog by later, and it was clear that he and Lyndy were on great terms.

But later, when Nathan returned to the ranch with Molly, the mood shifted.

The moment Caleb and Nathan were in the same space again, the bickering resumed. Snide comments, subtle jabs – it was like they couldn’t help themselves. And Amy, caught in the middle, could barely believe it. Here she was, trying to rebuild her career, and these two were acting like stubborn teenagers.

And things only escalated from there.

When Amy injured her hand during a roping run, Nathan rushed her to the ER. While waiting, Caleb and Nathan fell into yet another argument. This time, it got personal.

Caleb, clearly protective of Lyndy and wary of Nathan’s long-term intentions, threw out a pointed jab – hoping that Lyndy doesn’t get too attached to someone who might not stick around. Nathan fired back, and the tension nearly erupted.

Caleb: “I see you’ve charmed her.”
Nathan: “Yeah, I guess. It’s taken a while.”
Caleb: “I just hope she doesn’t get too attached.”
Nathan: “What was that?”
Caleb: “Well, I hope she doesn’t expect too much from you. Nothing too steady.”
Nathan: “What does that mean? You hardly even know me.”
Caleb: “OK, well, I’ve met a hundred guys like you from the circuit.”
Nathan: “Guys like what?”
Caleb: “Brooders . You know, chip on their shoulder, never quite content with what they’ve got. Chased by demons or chasing the next best thing.”
Nathan: “Says the guy who’s been chasing Amy since we met.”

That’s when Amy got back from getting her hand patched up, and was furious to see them at each other’s throats again.

She told them point-blank that she got hurt because she was distracted by them not getting along, which was painful to Amy since they were both important to her – Caleb as her best friend, and Nathan as her boyfriend. And now, thanks to them, she was sidelined for the rodeo.

It was a gut punch, and both men knew it.

But out of that confrontation came an unexpected solution – and maybe even the start of a new understanding.

The next day, Nathan showed up at Heartland with a plan: he and Caleb would rope together in Amy’s place to showcase Strider. It would not only help Amy’s reputation but also give them a chance to get on the same page – the least they could do was stop acting like enemies.

Caleb agreed. He would heel, Nathan would head, and they’d go for the win.

And win they did.

Their run at the rodeo was smooth, fast, and seamless. It was the kind of performance that only comes from mutual trust – even if that trust was still being built. Cheryl was thrilled, and Amy was happy to see the two men get along for once.

Afterward, you could tell something had shifted. No, Caleb and Nathan weren’t suddenly best friends. But there was a new respect between them. The competition had forced them to work together – and it worked.

It might not be peace, exactly. But it’s definitely progress.

Trust and Tension

This season, Amy and Nathan’s slow-burn romance has been heating up thanks to many sweet moments, emotional vulnerability, and a deep mutual respect. But in this episode, the undercurrents of tension rose to the surface again – forcing them to confront something that might spell trouble for their relationship.

At the start of the episode, Nathan was as supportive as ever, offering to be Amy’s heeler so she could showcase  Strider at the rodeo and then even teaming up with Caleb after Amy got hurt.

But sadly, the harmony between them didn’t last.

After Nathan and Caleb’s win, when Amy and Nathan were enjoying a quiet moment alone during the rodeo, Gracie showed up and slyly asked Nathan how he liked Pryce Beef’s sponsorship of the flag team. And that smugness triggered something in Amy.

Amber Marshall as Amy, Krista Bridges as Gracie and Spencer Lord as Nathan on Heartland season 19 episode 6

Amy had been wrestling with the suspicion that Gracie was somehow involved with Spartan and Polaris getting sick, yet hadn’t dared bring it up to Nathan before. But seeing Gracie’s dirty maneuvering when it comes to who Pryce Beef is going to sponsor (more on that in the next section) cracked Amy’s restraint.

Amy finally told Nathan what she suspected.

She didn’t accuse Gracie outright, but she was honest – she couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right – the timing of the horses’ colic was too strange since she had seen Gracie in the barn just before it all happened.

Understandably, Nathan didn’t take it too well.

He didn’t get angry, but you could see the wall go up. He was stunned, maybe even hurt. He told Amy he couldn’t believe Gracie would ever put horses’ lives in danger like that.

And just like that, the warmth between them cooled.

Amy regretted bringing it up – but at the same time, she was relieved it was finally out in the open. The truth had been eating away at her, and now that Nathan knew, they could finally address it. Or so she hoped.

The next morning, before Nathan left for Kamloops to compete in a working cow horse competition, Amy asked him to come see her because she didn’t like them leaving things on a bad note.

But the air between them was still heavy, uncertain.

When Nathan asked her directly if she believed Gracie was responsible, Amy hesitated. She didn’t know what to believe anymore. Maybe she never would.

And Nathan admitted something huge, too. He might have a blind spot when it comes to his sister, that he didn’t want to believe she could be capable of something like that, but that he also wasn’t 100% sure.

Amy: “Thank you for coming to see me before you left. I didn’t really like how we left things yesterday.”
Nathan: “Yeah, me neither. But, um… you still believe what you said about Gracie?”
Amy: “I am not sure what to believe. And honestly, I don’t know if I ever will know the truth.”
Nathan: “Gracie’s a good person at heart. And we’ve really become a team since we started helping my dad. So yeah, maybe I have a blind spot. But this… No. She wouldn’t. Would she?”
Amy: “And I can see why you don’t even want to go there. But… Hey, we said we were not gonna leave on this note. I want you to have the best time in Kamloops.”
Nathan: “Thanks. I guess I better go.”
Amy: “Love you.”
Nathan: “Love you too.”

And with one last I-love-you, he was gone.

It’s clear that with Amy’s revelation, Amy and Nathan’s relationship is on a bit of shaky ground.

I just hope that they will get to some type of resolution on this soon. Although I also have a feeling we might have to wait until the end of the season to find out what really happened with the horses, if Gracie had anything to do with that, and how Amy’s suspicions will influence her relationship with Nathan in the long run.

Sponsor Wars

If the Hudson Rodeo is about big wins and flashy entrances, then to get to that point was all about strategy – and in this episode, Lou and Gracie were playing very different games to do that

It all started with Lou trying to lock in a big sponsorship win for Heartland Beef by recruiting Miley, who’s a well-known barrel racer.

Miley was skeptical at first – after all, her recent performances hadn’t exactly been podium-worthy – but Lou reassured her. They believed in her. And in a very Heartland moment, Lou told her they were “all in.”

But Gracie Pryce was watching, and she wasn’t about to let Heartland Beef win without a fight.

When Nathan came home and saw a man leaving the ranch, he asked Gracie who it was – but instead of answering, Gracie deflected, asking what he thought of Pryce Beef’s new ad.

P.S. Eagle-eyed fans from the Heartland Facebook fan group identified the man as Wes. You know, the man who caused the Heartland barn fire all the way in season 1? Not good!

The tension was already simmering. So when Nathan told her that her ad was not very personal and mentioned that Heartland was sponsoring Miley, suggesting that Pryce Beef might want to find someone, too, Gracie took that idea and ran with it. Straight into sabotage territory.

Later that day, Gracie cornered Miley at the rodeo grounds and made a bold offer: she would double whatever Heartland Beef was giving Miley if she switched over to Pryce.

It was a calculated move. But what Gracie didn’t count on was Miley’s loyalty. Instead of jumping ship, Miley went straight to Lou and told her about Gracie’s offer.

Lou was stunned. Amy, too. Neither could believe Gracie would stoop so low, and Amy even admitted that Gracie’s underhanded move only made her more suspicious about what happened to Spartan and Polaris the week before.

That only fueled Lou’s fire, and she wanted to confront Gracie immediately about both the horses and the sponsorship. But Amy asked Lou to hold off – she wanted to handle things her own way.

So Amy talked to Nathan about Gracie’s attempt to poach Miley from them, and he was also in disbelief that Gracie would go that far just to get ahead.

But Gracie wasn’t done yet.

Since Miley didn’t budge, she set her sights on another target – Katie’s flag team. And that’s how Pryce Beef ended up sponsoring the Hudson Wilds Flag Team… much to Katie’s dismay.

When Katie found out, moments before having to perform, she raced to Lou, panicked. Katie asked her mom if she should drop out after all, after all Katie felt like she was riding for the enemy. But Lou told her to hold her head high. Katie made a commitment to the team, and she needed to follow through.

Still, it was clear that Lou was livid about Gracie’s bold move. So when Gracie sat beside Lou in the stands, trying to play the friendly neighbor, Lou snapped.

Michelle Morgan as Lou and Krista Bridges as Gracie on Heartland season 19 episode 6

She called Gracie out – not just for the Miley stunt or the flag team sponsorship – but for everything. Lou didn’t say it outright, but the implication was crystal clear: Lou also thought that Gracie might have something to do with the horses falling ill.

Gracie, ever cool under pressure, simply said that she didn’t know what Lou meant and that Lou was just bitter that she hadn’t thought to sponsor Katie’s team.

But it wasn’t fully clear if Gracie really didn’t know what Lou was talking about or if she was playing dumb. So Lou made sure Gracie knew that Lou was watching every Gracie’s move.

Gracie: “Congratulations.”
Lou: “OK, stop! Stop trying to pretend to be my friend, OK? Or even a friendly rival. You tried to steal Miley right out from under my nose. You think I didn’t know? And then you doubled down with my daughter’s flag team. Plus, I know what you did.”
Gracie: “What do you mean?”
Lou: “Really?”
Gracie: “Really.”
Lou: “OK. Gracie, I have my eye on you.”
Gracie: “And I would expect nothing less. Come on, you’re just upset ’cause you didn’t think of the Hudson Wilds first. Enjoy the halftime show.”

The next day, when Katie told Lou about a possible Hudson Wilds photoshoot for new ads for Pryce Beef, Lou tried to put on a brave face for Katie, but deep down, you could see the fire in her eyes.

Gracie had really gotten under Lou’s skin with her latest stunts and had made it personal. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what Lou does next to try to one-up Gracie.

Rodeo or Writing?

This episode, Katie’s found herself caught between two equally meaningful opportunities – and had to make a choice that would define not just her weekend, but her sense of self.

It all started during flag team rehearsal. With the Hudson Rodeo around the corner, the Hudson Wilds were putting the finishing touches on their performance, and River had big plans for Katie. River wanted Katie to ride the final flourish with River – a sliding stop – despite Katie being the rookie on the team.

Katie was surprised but excited. River’s faith in her clearly meant a lot. But just when things were starting to fall into place, life threw Katie a curveball.

She got a call from the Calgary Writers’ Festival: they’d moved her reading slot up to the very same night as the Hudson Rodeo. And suddenly, Katie was staring down an impossible choice.

Telling River that she couldn’t ride with the team anymore was one of the hardest things Katie had to do. River was visibly disappointed, and although she tried to be supportive, the tension was clear. It wasn’t Katie’s fault – the festival had made the last-minute change – but the timing couldn’t have been worse.

Katie turned to Lou for guidance, unsure of what the right move was.

In a rare moment, Lou didn’t tell Katie what to do. Instead, she laid it out honestly: Katie had made a commitment to the flag team, and while the Writers’ Festival was a big opportunity, one reading didn’t make or break a writing career. And Lou also mentioned that either decision had consequences.

And something Lou said seemed to stick because the next day, Katie made her choice.

She showed up at the rodeo in her flag team uniform, ready to ride.

The decision clearly meant the world to River, who lit up when she saw Katie arrive. And together, they delivered a powerful, confident performance. Katie nailed the sliding stop, earning not just cheers from the crowd but a sense of pride in keeping her word.

But the surprises didn’t end there.

Right after their ride, River pulled Katie aside and told her they had to run. Literally. Because River had called the Writers’ Festival organizers and convinced them to keep the last reading slot open for Katie.

Kamaia Fairburn as River and Baye McPherson as Katie on Heartland season 19 episode 6

So the two of them raced off to Calgary.

The next day, Katie gushed to Lou about how well her reading went, possibly due to the adrenaline from the rodeo still coursing through her veins. And Lou told Katie how proud she was of her daughter, managing to do it all and doing it all so well.

And just like that, Katie had managed to honor both sides of herself – the ranch girl and the writer.

A Risk Too Far

If there’s one thing Dex has been searching for since the season’s beginning, it’s purpose. But this week, that search took a wild and dangerous turn.

It all started innocently enough.

Jack found Dex boxing next to the barn with music blaring, and while the noise irritated Jack, the real concern was what Dex was doing in the first place.

Dex explained that he was almost finished paying off his debt to Jack and was looking for the next thing. His latest idea? Mixed Martial Arts. After all, if there’s already one MMA fighter who’s blind in one eye out there making it work, why not him?

Jack, as expected, was skeptical – but didn’t push too hard. Instead, he asked Dex to help out by delivering some sponsor banners to the rodeo grounds and picking up Katie while he was at it. Jack also told him he’d be volunteering at the rodeo tomorrow, which Dex wasn’t too pleased about.

While at the rodeo grounds, Dex locked eyes with a nasty bull named Killjoy – the kind of bull no rider wants to draw.

Dylan Hawco as Dex on Heartland season 19 episode 6

You could practically see the wheels turning in Dex’s head. And once that seed was planted, there was no stopping him.

Jack made it clear the next day that Dex’s role during the rodeo was at the registration desk – nothing more. His job was to check pro cards and make sure the bull riders were actually qualified. But when the rider who drew Killjoy dropped out, Dex saw an opportunity.

Without permission, training, or even proper gear, Dex suited up in the dropped-out rider’s equipment and rode Killjoy under the other rider’s name. And it was as reckless as it sounds.

No one knew that it was Dex, not  Grady Steves, riding Killjoy until it was already over. But when Jack figured it out, he was livid.

The next morning, Jack lit into Dex with righteous fury. It wasn’t just that Dex put himself in danger – it was how he went about it. He’d abused the trust Jack gave him at the registration desk, taken someone else’s slot, and made a mockery of the rules.

Dex, to his credit, didn’t try to deny it. He even doubled down, asking Jack to help him become a bull rider since Jack used to ride broncs. But Jack wasn’t having it.

He told Dex, plainly and firmly, that they were done. That Dex hadn’t just broken the rules – he’d broken Jack’s trust. And for that, Jack couldn’t forgive him.

Jack: “That little stunt you pulled last night…”
Dex: “I can explain.”
Jack: “Don’t even think of trying to spin it. You abused your role and almost killed yourself in the process.”
Dex: “ell, if you didn’t want me to ride, you shouldn’t have gone all cowboy poet on me.”
Jack: “Are you seriously blaming me for sneaking your way onto that bull?”
Dex: “No. I’m thanking you, because I’m off MMA, and I’m all in on bull riding.”
Jack: “Oh, well, good for you. I hope I don’t read your name in the obituaries.”
Dex: “I’ll be fine because you’re going to help me.”
Jack: “Oh, no, I am not. You’re done here.”
Dex: “Does that mean my debt’s paid?”
Jack: “No, it doesn’t. It means I brought you into my world, and you made a joke of it. Now, get off my ranch. I don’t need to see you back here.”

It was a painful moment, not just for Dex but for us as viewers. Because while Dex is impulsive, we’ve seen his heart. We’ve seen him try, again and again, to find his place. But this time, he went too far.

From behind-the-scenes stuff, I know that Dex’s time at Heartland isn’t over, so it will definitely be interesting to see just how Dex will go about earning Jack’s trust back.

Reconnecting

One of the most quietly meaningful arcs in this episode unfolded between two characters we haven’t seen together in a while – Miley and Logan.

Their reunion happened by chance at Maggie’s.

Miley was just leaving after her sponsorship meeting with Lou, and Logan was walking in. The encounter was a little awkward at first – they hadn’t seen each other in a long time, and neither quite knew what to say.

Drew Davis as Logan and Jaelynn Thora Brooks as Miley on Heartland season 19 episode 6

Logan broke the ice by sharing that his colt starting clinic had sold out, and Miley congratulated him. But even in those first few moments, it was clear there were some unspoken emotions hovering between them.

Logan was surprised to hear from Lou that Miley now ran her own ranch, specializing in breeding barrel racing horses. And he admitted to Lou that he’d missed a lot while he was making a name for himself.

And for Miley’s part, she seemed to be carrying a bit of baggage, too – about both her career and her past with Logan.

Finally, that tension came to a head at the rodeo.

When Logan offered Miley a good luck wish before her run, she cut through the pleasantries with a biting reply. Was he really there to support her? Or was he just showing up to rub his success in her face? Because, as Miley saw it, Logan was thriving while she was stuck on a losing streak.

But really, her frustration wasn’t as much about him as it was about her. She was down on herself, doubting her worth, her talent, and her future in the sport she loved. And in Logan’s confident presence, all of that felt magnified.

But Logan didn’t take the bait. Instead, he offered her a gentle reality check. He reminded her that she was being too hard on herself and that she just needed to find joy and freedom in her riding again.

And those few words made all the difference.

Miley went on to win the barrel racing event with a stunning performance, reclaiming her confidence in front of the entire Hudson crowd. And the next day, she met up with Logan for coffee to say thank you.

That coffee chat was sweet and heartfelt. Miley thanked Logan for what he said at the rodeo and admitted it helped her shake the doubt that had been weighing her down.

Logan, in turn, told her he was nervous about running into her in Hudson, uncertain of what old feelings might stir up.

And they agreed that seeing each other again gave them something rare: a second chance at goodbye. A clean slate.

Miley: “I appreciated your words yesterday. So zen.”
Logan: “Yeah? I’ve gotten better at just taking things as they come. You know? Like seeing you again.”
Miley: “How do you mean?”
Logan: “Honestly, I was pretty worried about running into you. What it might stir up.”
Miley: “And?”
Logan: “And I think I just realized that you’ve had a lot to do with where I am today.”
Miley: “I feel the same way about you.”
Logan: “You know, I didn’t come back to Hudson to get a redo of saying goodbye, but I am glad we got the chance.”
Miley: “Me too.”

Whether this was closure or a new beginning for them, only time will tell. But for now, it was a beautiful, grounded moment between two people who once mattered to each other.

Jack Hearing

Heartland’s strength has always rested not just in its big moments, but in the small, almost imperceptible shifts – and in this episode, one of those shifts came from Jack.

It was a fleeting scene: Dex and Katie returning home from the rodeo grounds, only to find Jack in the kitchen, making coffee.

The kettle was whistling loudly, and so Jack didn’t hear the kids walk in, didn’t respond when they called out to him, and when he finally did turn around, he jumped in surprise.

Dex, ever the blunt one, called him out on it. Jack, clearly rattled, brushed it off with a quick defensive comment, trying to make it seem like nothing. But it wasn’t nothing.

This was the second time in so many episodes that Jack didn’t respond to someone talking to him. The show hasn’t drawn direct attention to it – there’s been no dramatic moment, no urgent concern raised—but that’s exactly what makes it feel so real.

Whether it’s a gradual loss of hearing or a deeper health issue, time will tell. But the idea that something might be affecting Jack’s hearing sends quiet ripples through everything.

Because if Jack is vulnerable, what does that mean for everyone else who leans on him?

For now, he’s doing what Jack always does – keeping his cards close to the vest, pretending everything’s fine. But the looks on Dex and Katie’s faces when Jack didn’t hear them were full of concern.

Dylan Hawco as Dex, Baye McPherson as Katie and Shaun Johnston as Jack on Heartland season 19 episode 6

So something is definitely going on with Jack’s health; he just doesn’t want to admit it yet.

Final Thoughts on Heartland Season 19 Episode 6

Heartland season 19 episode 6 was a masterclass in balancing high-stakes drama with deeply personal moments. From the dust of the Hudson rodeo to the quiet heartaches happening behind closed doors, this episode packed in plenty of action, conflict, and growth.

Amy’s storyline took center stage, and rightfully so. After the near-collapse of her career just last episode, watching her rise again – even if she wasn’t the one in the saddle – felt like a triumph. And even though she still has a long road ahead to repair her reputation, this was a powerful step forward.

Nathan and Caleb finally finding some common ground was a welcome surprise, too. Their petty bickering had been wearing thin, and their shared victory in the arena felt like a much-needed reset. Whether they’ll actually stay on good terms remains to be seen, but for Amy’s sake, here’s hoping they keep things civil.

And speaking of Amy and Nathan – the tension between them took on a whole new shade this episode. Amy finally voiced her suspicions about Gracie, and while Nathan didn’t want to believe it, the seed has been planted. Their goodbye was tender, but definitely strained. This relationship is no longer in its honeymoon phase, and whether it survives what’s coming next is anyone’s guess.

Katie’s flag team debut was not only a success but also a mature moment of decision-making. She’s grown so much over the past few seasons, and the way she balanced loyalty to her team with her passion for writing was both impressive and incredibly relatable. And with River by her side, this dynamic duo continues to shine.

Meanwhile, the sponsor war between Lou and Gracie reached new levels of pettiness. Watching Lou keep a polite face while seething inside? That showed some major growth for Lou. But now that both she and Amy are openly suspicious of Gracie’s motives, it’s only a matter of time before things explode.

And let’s not forget Dex, who made one of the most reckless choices we’ve seen in a while. His unauthorized bull ride was pure adrenaline, but it also crossed a serious line. Jack’s decision to kick him off the ranch was harsh but not unwarranted. Dex’s story may not be over, but he’s got a lot of growing up to do before he earns his way back.

Finally, those quiet hints at Jack’s potential hearing issues were subtle but meaningful. Heartland’s longtime patriarch may be tough as nails, but he’s not immune to the passage of time. And the show is clearly planting seeds for a bigger, more emotional arc in the final episodes of the season.

All in all, this episode delivered everything Heartland fans love – family, horses, drama, and heart. And with the rodeo behind them, the season is galloping toward what looks to be a truly emotional back half.

So, what did you think of this one? Do you believe Gracie had anything to do with the colicking horses? Are Amy and Nathan heading for a rocky patch in their relationship or a full-on break-up? And how do you think Dex will find his way back to Heartland?

Let’s chat in the comments! And see you next week for another recap!
