After quite a break new episodes of Madam Secretary are airing again. And I have to say, I really missed the McCord family and all the drama that comes with them. And this episode of the show was especially dramatic because it involved the two things in life that most people say not to mix – love and politics. So without further ado, let’s see what happened on Madam Secretary season 3 episode 14.
Warning, spoilers ahead!
Case of the week
This Madam Secretary episode revolved around a different type of piece deal and a Romeo and Juliet-like romance that was curtailed not by death but by ambition for a better life.
Madam Secretary season 3 episode 14 started with President Dalton welcoming the son of the Colombian president Juan-Luis Moreno and the daughter of the rebel leader Soledad Penagos, who were engaged, along with their parents to the White House to negotiate a truce between the two Colombian sides. It spun into speeches and hopes that the civil war in Colombia might finally come to an end. But the happy occasion was cut short when Soledad called off the engagement and ran away, confirming the suspicions that their star-crossed romance was, in fact, a publicity stunt to achieve peace in Colombia.
That led to panic both in the White House and the State Department, because everyone was scrambling to find Soledad and bring her back to the negotiation table. But it turned out, that they didn’t have to search far because Soledad had gone to Stevie for help, after meeting her while in the White House. But not even Elizabeth could inspire the newly-broken-up couple to repair their relationship and to help to sign the truce. However, Elizabeth didn’t give up and later came up with a plan, how to achieve their goals.
She sent Daisy and Jay to talk to Soledad and Juan respectively, since they were better equipped at doing so, based on what happened in their lives. And after Elisabeth telling the ex-lovers about the beginnings of her marriage to Henry, they agreed to work together to get the peace treaty signed. Again Elizabeth saved the day and also possibly the future of Colombia and other South American countries. Go, Elizabeth!
Henry’s work
Meanwhile, the second half of the McCord power couple was dealing with his own problems. The agent that Henry was preparing to go undercover in episode 13 finally made contact with the religious group. But all didn’t go as smoothly as Henry had hoped for. Although Ian did manage to convince the militia group that he shared their views, what they did not expect was the cleansing ritual that the new recruits had to go through. And we were left to wonder if Ian survived the almost drowning.
For a change, I really like the work that Henry is doing right now. Although he still has to put other people’s lives in danger, at least we see him truly using his deep understanding of religion to help those people survive. And also we finally see him work with an experienced agent, who has much bigger chance to survive in extreme situations than Dimitri did, because as Elizabeth pointed out, Ian isn’t Dimitri.
Jay and Daisy’s misfortunes
The third main story line of Madam Secretary season 3 episode 14 concentrated on two of Elizabeth’s team members, who both were battling some hard things.
Firstly, Jay was still wrapping his head around his separation from his wife, only to find out that she is dating his best friend. That sent the already depressed and inconsolable Jay into even darker place. Luckily, Jay had Matt, who seemed to help at least a little in soothing his friend’s pain. I just hope that this doesn’t mean that we will be seeing the bitter Jay until the end of the season.
The other person who was very unlucky on this Madam Secretary episode was Daisy. In previous episodes, we saw her flirting with Kevin Park, the guy from budgeting, and in Madam Secretary season 3 episode 14 we wound out that they are in fact dating. However, their happiness was cut short, too, because on her way to their date Daisy found Kevin dead in his office.
But that wasn’t all. Later, she was dragged from her home by the FBI to an interrogation room, where Elizabeth informed her that Kevin actually was a CIA agent. He was investigating something at the State Department and that he was murdered because of it. Which left me wondering if Daisy is now a murder suspect and what or who exactly was Kevin investigating. This whole Kevin thing opened up a whole new mystery plot for the show and it will be interesting to find out more about it in the upcoming episodes.
Last thoughts on Madam Secretary season 3 episode 14
Lastly, what I loved about Madam Secretary season 3 episode 14 was that Stevie was finally back on the show. We hadn’t really seen her for the last few episodes, but it looks like she is settling into her White House intern position very well. And the fact that she is so in tune with all the political dealings makes me wonder if we are seeing the next Madam Secretary in the making?
