Magnum P.I.

Who hasn’t heard of Magnum, P.I., the legendary 80s crime drama lead by Tom Selleck? It’s a cult classic. But since it has been 30 years since the last episode of the show aired on CBS in 1988, it’s no wonder that the network is trying to reboot the series. After all their Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver reboots have both been huge successes. So let’s take a look at what we know about this new version of Magnum P.I. shall we?

Who’s in charge?

The man behind the new incarnation of Magnum P.I. is the same man who brought us the Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver reboots. That’s right Peter M. Lenkov is back at it again, bringing us yet another rebooted TV series. And his collaborators on this Magnum P.I. reboot are Eric Guggenheim, who co-wrote the pilot with Lenkov. As well as John Davis and John Fox from Davis Entertainment and, of course, CBS TV Studios and Universal TV Studios. With Justin Lin directing the pilot episode.

What’s this show about?

Similarly to the original, the Magnum P.I. reboot will follow an ex-Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum, who after returning home from Afghanistan decides to use his skills for good and becomes a private investigator. He enlists the help of a former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins and fellow veterans Orville “Rick” Wright and Theodore “TC” Calvin. And together the team solves cases that no one else can or will.

Who’s playing who?

Now that we know what plot the Magnum P.I. reboot will follow, it’s time to unveil who will be playing who on this show. Jay Hernandez will be reimagining the role of Thomas Magnum. While his team will be portrayed by Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton and Stephen Hill.

Weeks will be playing Juliet Higgins (Jonathan Higgins in the original). She’s the no-nonsense property manager for a best-selling author’s Hawaii residence. And Magnum will start out the series working security for the writer’s huge estate alongside Higgins. Knighton will portray Magnum’s friend Orville “Rick” Wright. Rick is a former marine and the well-connected owner of one of the most popular nightclubs in Oahu. While Hill will take up the role of Magnum’s other friend and future teammate Theodore “TC” Calvin. TC is an ex-marine chopper pilot, who is utilizing his skills as a helicopter tour business owner and pilot.

Also attached to the project are actors like Antal Kalik, Domenick Lombardozzi, Tiffany Hines, Ken Jeong, Carl Weathers and many more. Jeong, for example, will be guest starring in an episode of Magnum P.I. as a fellow private investigator Lee Ji-Won, who Magnum plays poker with.
