Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you had some kind of supernatural abilities?
Some of these abilities seem mostly positive without being too much of a hassle in your daily life, or really having any potentially dangerous accidents (at least, if you’re an inherently good person using them for good things).
Telekinesis, for example, would be useful most of the time to move objects. A type of telepathy like Professor X’s, too, could be beneficial if used in the right way.
But if you think about it, that’s only the case with supernatural abilities that you can control. What if you have these powers and they’re just… always there? Affecting your life and forcing you to just adapt and live with it?
Think Edward Cullen, a telepath who can always hear everyone’s thoughts, or Zoe Benson from American Horror Story: Coven, who would accidentally cause the death of any person she’d sleep with.
It’s these ever-present abilities that may cause trouble in a person’s life, and that’s definitely also the case with the main character of Hulu’s newest upcoming single-camera comedy series, Maggie.
In mid-May of 2021, the show has officially been picked up to series by ABC. But at the start of 2022, due to the lack of available slots on ABC, the show officially moved to Hulu and will now air as Hulu original, premiering all episodes on Wednesday, July 6th.
It’s an adaptation of a 2019 short film of the same name written and directed by Tim Curcio (Old Friends, Friend Us).
Here’s everything we know about the series so far!
Who’s in charge of Maggie?
Maggie is written and executive produced by Maggie Mull and Justin Adler.
Joining them as executive producers are Evan Hayes, Jeff Morton, and Natalia Anderson, while Anderson has also been slated to direct its pilot.
20th Television will be producing the series as part of Disney Television Studios.
What’s Maggie about?
As you’ve probably guessed by now, the titular character Maggie is a young woman with the gift of precognition – that is, she’s often able to see the fate of those around her.
This isn’t just her family or friends, either, sometimes she can even see the future of a random person just standing in the street.
For the most part, she’s unable to see her own fate and the series follows her attempts to cope with her psychic abilities and still have a relatively normal life – which includes turning her gifts into a career.
When she suddenly does catch a glimpse of her future in the hands of a stranger, however, her present veers down an entirely different path.
Who are we going to see in Maggie?
Maggie is set to be played by Rebecca Rittenhouse, who you may recognize from her previous roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Mindy Project.
Starring opposite Rittenhouse is David Del Rio (The Baker and the Beauty) in the role of Ben, the handsome stranger whose future Maggie accidentally spots herself in.
Joining them in the cast are Kerri Kenney, Chris Elliott, Nichole Sakura, Ray Ford, Angelique Cabral, Leonardo Nam, and Chloe Bridges.

Kenney will be portraying Maggie’s mom Maria, who’s overly invested in Maggie’s life, including her love life. With Elliott playing Maggie’s dad Jack, who often appears as uninvolved and unemotional but can surprise you by how much he actually feels.
Sakura will star as Maggie’s single and ready to mingle best friend Louise. And Ford will play Maggie’s eccentric psychic mentor Angel.
On Ben’s side, Cabral will portray Ben’s older sister Amy, who’s a vegan food Instagramer and feeling the pressure to keep up appearances. With Nam starring as Amy’s artist husband Dave.
Finally, Bridges will play Ben’s girlfriend and Maggie’s neighbor Jessie.
Maggie season 1 premieres on Hulu on Wednesday, July 6th!
