ABC’s Stumptown: Release Date, Synopsis, Trailer & More

The TV world is blowing up this summer with countless blockbusters and new shows debuting. In recent years, there have also been several comic book and graphic novel adaptations – not just in movies, but in TV shows as well. And judging by the success of Marvel and DC’s reworking of their classics, graphic novel remakes are bound to make it big on screen. Which is why ABC’s Stumptown is one of the most anticipated adaptations for this fall TV season.

Stumptown is a crime drama series and the first series pick of ABC’s prime time schedule of new shows.

The production was given its pilot order in late January 2019. And ABC subsequently ordered the show to series in May of the same year. Only a day after, the network announced that the anticipated Stumptown season one premiere is going to be on September 25, 2019. And will continue to air on the network every Wednesday at 10/9 central.

Who’s behind the show?

This new crime drama was created by Jason Richman, based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka. Richman was also the mind behind writing the pilot episode and will serve as an executive producer of the series.

Executive producing alongside him are Ruben Fleischer, Dave Bernad, Matthew Southworth, Justin Greenwood (both of whom are illustrator’s of the original graphic novel). And of course, the novel’s creator himself, Greg Rucka.

James Griffiths, another of the show’s executive producers, directed the pilot episode.

What’s this show about?

The series, inspired by the graphic novel series of the same name, follows Dex Parios. An incredibly talented private investigator and army veteran who deals with uncooperative police, a gambling problem, convoluted love life, and a sibling to look after in Portland, Oregon.

Parios uses her quick wit, intelligence, and assertiveness to her advantage in her post-service life as a PI. However, her unapologetic nature often lands her in trouble with criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.

Who’s playing who on Stumptown?

Cobie Smulders, known for portraying Robin on How I met Your Mother and agent Maria Hill in the MCU, plays the lead role of Dex Parios. Meanwhile, Canadian television actress Tantoo Cardinal has been cast as Sue Lynn Blackbird.

Emmy-awarded Camryn Manheim will be playing the role of Lieutenant Cosgrove, known already for starring in ABC’s The Practice and CBS’s Person of Interest. Michael Ealy, star of countless movies including 2 Fast 2 Furious, has been cast as Detective Miles Hoffman. Joining them in the starring roles is Jake Johnson, famous for playing Nick on New Girl.

The cast also reportedly includes among others: Dylan Colton, Clayton Chitty, Kory Abreu, Mika Bantog, Maureen Andronis, and Adrian Martinez.

Why should you watch this upcoming new series?

Stumptown sports a superstar cast and a lot of potential. The original graphic novel ran for four issues and went on to do three volumes. That’s plenty of material and holds a lot of promise for a stellar, long-running show. So, don’t forget to pen it into your primetime TV calendars starting September 25!
