Cop shows are one of the most popular TV show genres there is. So it is no wonder another one will be joining the fold come fall. Because ABC has a new crime drama up their sleeve and it’s called The Rookie. So let’s look at what this new series is about and what we can expect to see while watching it.
Who’s in charge?
The Rookie comes from Alexi Hawley, who was a writer and producer on Castle. She executive produces the project with Michelle Chapman, Mark Gordon, Jon Steinberg and the show’s star Nathan Fillion. With the help of Entertainment One and ABC Studios. And Liz Friedlander is the director for the pilot episode, as well as executive produced it.
What’s this show about?
This new crime procedural will follow John Nolan. After almost getting killed in a bank robbery he decides to finally go for his dream of being a police officer in Los Angeles despite the fact that he’s forthy and has to leave his comfortable small-town life to do it. Now living in LA and working as a rookie cop he has to face prejudice and skepticism and prove that he can be a good LAPD officer same as his younger colleagues.
Who’s playing who?
As I mentioned above, the show’s titular character John Nolan aka The Rookie is played by Nathan Fillion. In addition to Fillion, actors like Afton Williamson, Eric Winter, Alyssa Diaz, Melissa O’Neil, Titus Makin, Richard T. Jones, and Mercedes Mason will also be part of The Rookie’s ensemble cast.
Williamson will be playing Talia Bishop, Nolan’s training officer. Winter will take on the role of Tim Bradford another training officer with slight overbearing tendencies. With Diaz staring as the third training officer Angela Lopez, who’s about to make detective-trainee. O’Neil will star as Lucy Chen, a fellow LAPD rookie and a possible love interest to Fillion’s character. With Makin also paying a fellow rookie Jackson West, who also is the son of an LAPD commander and has a lot to live up to. Jones will take on the role of Sergeant Wade Grey, the police station’s Watch Commander who dislikes Nolan from day one. And rounding off the cast is Mason, who will be staring as Nolan’s commanding officer Captain Zoe Andersen.
