After international popularity following the original shows’ feature on Amazon Prime, an adaptation to one of Israel’s highest-rated scripted series ever, The Baker and the Beauty, features a Miami baker whose life changes when he finds himself in a relationship with an international superstar. The US version is being developed and executive produced by writer Dean Georgaris for Universal Television to be premiered on ABC on Monday, April 6th.

It was announced in November of 2018 that an American adaptation of the series was being developed by Keshet Studios and Universal Television for ABC. Writer and producer Dean Georgaris (The Brave, Bluff City Law) wrote the new series. With Academy Award winner David Frankel (Teech, Grapevine) slated to direct the pilot.
Both Frankel and Georgaris also executive produce. Alongside fellow executive producers Avi Nir (Homeland), Keshet CEO Alon Shtruzman, Brillstein-Grey Entertainment President Peter Traugott, and producer Rachel Kaplan.
In January of 2019, ABC ordered the pilot and on May 11, 2019, ABC green-lighted the series. It was announced shortly after that the series would premiere in the spring of 2020.

We’ve seen many American adaptations to foreign counterparts before, from The Office to Skins to America’s Got Talent. And while the story of The Baker and The Beauty was beautifully executed and upliftingly inspirational in the original, time will only tell if the US version will live up to the hype. Luckily, we don’t have to wait long to find out since the show premieres on April 6!
